About Us

On every occasion it has been clear to me that Marimba One has a nice design and smooth sound. And now that we are in possession of one for the first time in Hungary, I can claim with complete confidence that this instrument's sound is wonderful and its design is magnificent. - Szabó István

Marimba One Frames

We offer three different Marimba One frame styles:

  Soloist Wood Frame

  3000 Series Height Adjustable Frame

  4000 Series Height Adjustable Frame

Each frame style is carefully engineered to enhance the structure of the entire marimba. Our frames are extremely strong and durable, and will last through many generations.

Each frame style is very simple and easy to assemble and disassemble. It takes only about fifteen minutes to fully assemble our marimbas straight from the case.

All of our woods are genuine wood - we do not use any stains to falsely color the wood. Our cherry and mahogany frame woods are coated only in a clear finish to enhance and protect the true beauty of the wood.

HEADBOARDS

Each of our frame headboards features the Marimba One pocketing system. We remove wood from the inside face of the headboard to create ledges which support the four rails and two banks of resonators.

Pocketing is much stronger than either hangers or brackets screwed to the headboard.

Pocketing on Treble End Frame

By their nature, pockets are seamless and smooth to the touch; our pockets are flush and have no hardware to snag or break!

FEATURES

At Marimba One, we developed sway bar blocks to connect rails and resonators and to stabilize the keyboard. The sway bars secure the two inside rails and the natural and accidental resonators into fixed relative positions.

Because all contact points are felted, our sway bar system is completely silent.

Leveling screws on the rail hinge points (see left) allow you to fully adjust rail levels.

DETAILS

The Soloist Wood Frame consists of two end frames and one center support. The 3000 and 4000 Series Height Adjustable Frames have two end frames, two girder tubes and one tube joiner.

All of our marimbas have four rails, two sway bar blocks, two banks of resonators, and the natural and accidental bars.

OUR MARIMBAS

We offer three marimba lines: the Soloist Wood Frame, and our 3000 and 4000 Height Adjustable Frames.

TUNING KNOBS

The Soloist Wood Frame and 3000 Series Adjustable Height Frame incorporate resonator tuning knobs, which adjust the distance between the top of the resonators and underside of the bars.

Our tuning knobs allow the player to keep the resonators in tune due to changes in the speed of sound as a result of different temperatures.

For a standard room temperature of 70°F (21°C), the optimal distance between the arch of the bars and the top of the resonators is 1 inch (2.54 cm). For warmer temperatures, move the resonators closer to the bars; for cooler temperatures move the resonators farther away.

If you experiment with different resonator heights, you will become accustomed to discerning the optimal resonator/bar relationship. Adjusting the distance between the bars and the resonators allows you to accommodate changes in the speed of sound in different temperatures.

Our tuning knob system maintains the center of the resonators under the center of the bars, maximizing the fundamental response of the bars.
