Marimba One - Who We Are

In the early 1980's, Ron Samuels fell in love with the sound of the marimba. He spent his next years acquiring the woodcraft and design skills that would enable him to make a world class instrument. Ron spent years listening to concert marimbas, studying their evolution, and talking to percussionists about their ideal marimba sound.

Pursuing that shared ideal, Ron developed a theory of balanced keyboard "voicing," and began to craft the worlds' first voiced keyboards.

Today, Ron and the Marimba One artisans continue to work with musicians worldwide to create the finest concert marimbas and professional mallets that can be made. Marimba One is grounded in the belief that each and every marimba should be custom designed and handmade to perfection: an instrument of art.

Ron Samuels is the innovator of voiced marimba keyboards. A voiced keyboard is balanced from treble to bass, with matched resonance across the registers and a maximized "sweet spot" within each bar.

Marimba One is located on the Pacific Coast, five hours north of San Francisco. Our region boasts one of the highest numbers of musicians per capita in the world, as well as multiple fine instrument makers. We feel very lucky to live in a community defined and nourished by music!
